The AYCF National President, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, stated that Nigeria does not belong to the North alone or to the Muslims and Christians of the North in a statement noting that the region’s choice of a Southerner as president was obviously made in the spirit of justice.
The group emphasized that the decision to transfer power in 2023 was the most responsible political move the North could make, even from a moral standpoint.
They also emphasized that Nigeria is not a banana republic and that the presidency cannot be hereditary.
Shettima went on to say that the elder statesman was only expressing his personal viewpoint and not the position of the North as a whole, adding that a little balancing was needed in our father Zangon Daura’s position, especially when he admitted that the elders are merely today’s escorts for the younger generation.
The AYCF argued that the 13 northern governors, led by Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, repeatedly cited political justice when they supported a southern candidate for the presidency in 2023, saying, Though we are not card carrying members of the APC, we shared the opinion that the decision was in line with being fair to the South in 2023.
The youths claimed that they and their father Zangon Daura are aware that the North is respected for keeping its promises to the South and that this is one undeniably undeniable characteristic of all northerners.
They added that because northerners are not known for breaking promises, this explains why their son, President Muhammadu Buhari, never objected to the idea of a southern presidential candidate in the ruling party.
