Man set his Stepson on fire.

A suspect who was arrested for allegedly setting his stepchildren on fire blamed his action on a “fight” he had with his wife.

Joseph Ojo, who was detained by police in Ondo state on Wednesday, said his wife had not taken care of him because of the five children he had from his previous marriage.

Mr. Ojo’s wife also had two children, 18-month-old twins, with him.

The suspect said he allegedly set his five stepchildren on fire while they slept.

He said that the fight with his wife started after he brought N600 as money to feed; he accused the wife of starting it.

The incident, which occurred last Saturday in the Fagun Crescent area of waved city, resulted in the immediate death of one of the children.

Two of them were confirmed dead on Tuesday, after the severity of the burns they suffered.

According to the police, the case was first reported in the Enu-Owa Division on November 5.

A neighbor was said to have rushed to the scene and managed to rescue four of the children, while one was burned to death.

The children’s mother was also affected while trying to save her children.

7-year-old Tayo Akinfolarin was burned beyond recognition while the other four children were rushed to FMC, Owo, a police statement said.

10-year-old Aanu Akin Folarin died on the way to hospital and 14-year-old Tope Akin Folarin died on November 8, 2022, while the other two children are still receiving treatment at the hospital.

Police also noted that the suspect was angry at his wife’s attitude and siphoned gasoline from his chainsaw (logging machine) and poured it into the children’s room before setting it on fire.

The twins given to the suspect by the mother of those children are in a safe condition, as they were not in the same room with their stepsiblings, the police statement said.

According to the police, the suspect will soon be processed in court.
